Polyvore

I think I found a new site I am in love with, Polyvore.com...similar to lookbook, however, the only difference is users are not wearing the pieces, they lay it out like a magazine. Even better, you can click to purchase anything you like. Judging by the sites they are linking to, these are mainly UK based users.

You can search by brand or trend and it shows you UGC on how to wear it. Even better, we don't have to own these expensive pieces to express our fashion taste. Now I think I just need to brush up on my photoshop skills haha.

Mix and Match

Since I don't have the resource to buy lots of nice things all the time, I have to make do with what I have. When I went out last night I decided to mix and match what I have in hopes it'd work. Here is what I came up with:

Ring #1 (from a market in Thailand)

Ring #2 (from Marc Jacob's charity store in the West Village)

Ring #3 (from Marc Jacob's charity store in the West Village)

I wore this out last night and got quite a few compliments...ring 1+3

Ring 1+2 = something new and more grand

So now, instead of three rings, it looks like I have 5 :)

wow...the things I can come up with when I am bored haha

Tory Burch Sale & Saks Friends and Family

Tory Burch sale is going on online now. Nothing much left, but doesn't take too much effort to check it out. You just gotta provide your email.

I didn't make it to the Prada sale today because I went out last night :(

O well, its a good thing, I have more for the Saks Family and Friend sale haha....its like 25% off cloths, 20% jewelery and 10% off cosmetics. I always get the most from the cosmetics departments during these sales since makeup and skin care rarely goes on sale. I looked at the fine print and the usual key brands have been excluded from the sale. Which is good because we won't get motivated to spend a lot of money ;) If you are lazy you can shop online, just use the check out code FRIENDS2. The sale sends Sunday so hurry.

Billion Dollar Babes Sale is back in NYC!

Yay...BDB have finally decided to do their physical bi-annual sales again!!! I have been going to these sales since 2006 or 2007 and for the most part I always get something. I don't understand why they didn't have one during the first half of this year. As for their online sales...I don't really like theirs...nothing really jumps out to me and the brands are so so.

And when I heard they brought the sale back to LA, I was so jealous....but now we finally got news they are coming to NY :)

Prada Sale

The big annual Prada/Miu Miu sale starts this Saturday :)

I went last year and got two pairs of shoes....they were 150 each....really good deals but you have to go early. The site said there will be bags, RTW, shoes and wallets...however, by the time I got in last year I only saw shoes and RTW. I went early too....but this time around I am not gonna kill myself over this, don't wanna end up spending a lot haha. But for those of you who have cash to burn....go super early.

Here are the shoes I got last year:

Location: 609 West 51st Street (btw 11th & 12th Aves)
Dates: 10/17 to 10/23
Hours: Weekends - 9am - 6pm and Mon to Fri - 10am - 7pm

Celebs and their bodysuits

I know we are reviving the 80s with the neon and shoulder pads and so forth, however, I am having an issue with the bodysuits. At first Lady Gaga came out in them and I was like okay, she's doing something unique....but Beyonce, Shakira, and now Rhianna (due to copyrights couldn't share the Rhianna one, but you can check it out here). I mean, don't get me wrong, they look great and I know it's probably making their legs look nice and long. But I just feel like its one of those fads where ppl look back and go...'what was I thinking.'

In these pix, I like Shakira's look the most, then Beyonce's (they got the shoulder pads i like now) and then Lady Gaga's (but I like hers because they remind me of video games).

Gabay's Outlet

hey...I just stopped by Gabay's Outlet today (on 1st avenue - between 13th-14th st) and they have some really good stuff. Got the heads up from one of my usual blogs that they just got a new shipment.

The prices are really good for the shoes. Louboutins from 300-400. Nicholas Kirkwood shoes for 400!!!! (i would have totally bought a pair if I wasn't already broke....on top of that another big sale is starting Saturday) So I am gonna wait until next Saturday hehe...if I don't get anything, I am running back to Gabay's to get those Kirkwood shoes. (The Kirkwood's at the store look nothing like the photos...I am just adding in a few for fun)

Their selection on bags isn't as big...but they have really good choices. The affordable ones look a little used (but I actually like that cuz it already looks broken in). The ones in good condition are still a good deal - but not the kind of dough I should be dropping right now ;)

'You, your shoes, and 72' competition

For all you artistic and creative people, there is a competition for a good cause...Jimmy Choo and Elton John's Aids Foundation are having a 'You, your shoes, and 72' competition. Look here for more details. Not to mention many awesome prizes - first place gets 7 pairs of shoes and 2 handbags of their choice from Jimmy Choo.

If you aren't creative you can either donate or buy something from Jimmy Choo's limited Project PEP collection.

There are some really nice entries, however, I like this one:

Super Mario Sweets

This looks soooow good and brings back good memories of playing Nintendo all day long. The details and everything are really cute. I would love to see what the creator would do with a Donkey Kong theme cake haha.

The cake came from here and the pastries came from here.

40 Bond St

I love NYC because no matter how long you have been here, there is still something new to see or do. Today I came across this building - 40 Bond...it was so interesting and fun looking. I thought it was a museum, gallery, or office, however, after working past it I saw a gym. So I figured apartment or hotel. I totally thought it would be a hotel...what apartment would look this cool....well to my surprise, its actually a condo!!! WOW...if I lived here I would just dress up and take pictures infront of my place haha. Maybe I will join Lookbook.nu if I lived here haha

NYC Sales - Columbus Day Weekend (lower NYC)

After a busy week, I like to do a lot of shopping...with this long weekend, you know there are a lot of sales too. Today I walked around the east village, les, and soho. Today I stopped at the following:

Anna Sheffield's sample sale - didn't get anything - very little selection
Claw Money & Hellz Bellz sale - a lot of guy stuff...not that much selection for girls
Swarovski Concept store - 10% of designer jewelry - i got something here :)
Intermix - they are having a European sale (30% off!!!! ready to wear and accessories) I didn't have enough budget left to buy anything (here is a little preview if you are having trouble deciding on whether to go or not http://www.intermixonline.com/category/european.do?page=1)(if you do end up booking online, the promo code is EUROPEAN)

Other places i checked out that didn't have a sale:
Patricia Fields - reasonably priced accessories
Eryn Brinie - no sale but reasonably priced and just got a lot of new stuff
Pixie Market - I am probably lazy, but I just prefer to shop online with them
MudHoney/Bond 7 - sellers can talk to designers about customizing certain items
Tarina Tarantino - nothing new and the last time I went there was a few months back (summer)
Screaming Mimi - Halloween items on display now - go here for some ideas

I didn't make it to the Fifth on Main Sale because I already did enough damage, however, my friend went and she said it was ok. Just a random mix of many brands but the selection wasn't too bad. My take from her comments is, if you are in the area...check it out...if not don't bother

When skating and surfing are combined...Loop-In

According to this designer...if skate boarding and surfing were to have a baby...this is what it will look like. It looks like so much fun and it can be played on any type of surface. You just need to be able to control the wheels and keep our balance within the wheels to have a good time.

I can't even walk in a straight line, I don't know if I can keep myself within those two wheels haha. But you never know until you try...and as I've learned from snowboarding, you need to try a few times too.

For a better explanation, check out this site:

Swarovski - design competition - old school gaming

Swarovski had a design competition and this is what one team came up with. They brought old school games back to life using Swarovski crystals. So you know what age group they are trying to target with these pieces haha.

We have Pac-Man, Tetris and Space Invader. If these haven't gone into production yet, I would like to request the space invader necklace as a pair of earrings instead ;)

Here is where I got this article:

Sonia Rykiel teaming up with H&M

Looks like Sonia Rykiel and H&M will be teaming up for two projects. For winter 2009, they will be introducing a lingerie line and for Spring 2010 they will be releasing a knitwear line.

I love knitwear...its so comfy and easy, too bad they aren't releasing the knitwear first....o well, I usually forget the exact drop date and never make it in time to get anything :( Everything in New York goes so fast. You can't have a job if you want the good deals, but you can't buy anything if you don't have a job.

Nars Loves New York

Nars will be making a personal appearance at Saks on 10/8 from 1:30-3 and a team of make up artists will be giving consultations the day this limited collection goes on sale. I just wish they would tell us what the colors are.

I know a lot of people like the 'Orgasm' blush color but that one doesn't look good on me, I like their 'Deep Throat' color. I love buying make up, but I only wear it when I go out at night...so to-date, I have only finished one item - bronzing powder. But I will continue to buy...because I am a girl :)

2014 Winter Olympics - Sochi, Russia

Now, in my search to see what the other 2016 Olympic bidders mocked up, I came across this one...2014 Winter Olympics!!! This looks so out of this world!!! I can't wait to see the final out come of this stadium. They say its going to look even better with the mountains in the background.

Got the image from this site:
http://www.inhabitat.com/2009/09/30/2014-winter-olympic-stadium-will-have-crystalline-skin/

Congrats - Rio

I am happy Rio won the bid, I think the city could really use something like this. They need the help with tourism because people always talk about how dangerous it is.

I don't know if it's because China set a standard for the Olympics, the fact that President Obama went to support Chicago's bid, or Michael Phelps winning big time last year. But I feel like this event is really back on everyone's radar. Or is it me...and I am just growing up and becoming more interested in the rest of the world. Because for the 2004 Olympics in Greece, the only highlight I can remember is the designer they picked to make the outfits (and of course the fact that the Olympics came from Greece).

Here are the ideas from the other countries:

The first one if Madrid, followed by Japan (stadium would have used solar power), and Chicago.

Sugar and Spice....and Everything Nice

This is so cute!!!! This will be the next theme for girl's night in :)

But I see this turning into a big sweet mess...with ice cream everywhere
